Your Voice: Maybe more time at an appointment, if that was possible.
Our Move: Thank you for your feedback. We can confirm that it is possible to have more time at an appointment if needed. When booking your appointment with the reception team, you can request a double appointment with the clinician, this would be if you have more than one problem to discuss, or if you felt like you had a very complex problem that would need longer than a 10 minute appointment.
Your Voice: I do not like having to describe my symptoms to someone who is not a qualified medical practitioner.
Our Move: We understand it can feel uncomfortable to discuss your health with non-medical staff. Receptionists and care navigators ask these questions to ensure you see the right clinician, for the correct length of time, and within an appropriate timeframe. All staff have received training to do this and always follow strict rules regarding patient confidentiality.

Your Voice: Having to wait 4 weeks for a routine appointment is not acceptable.
Our Move: We understand your frustration and apologise for the wait. Routine appointments may take longer as we prioritise patients with urgent or time-sensitive needs to ensure they are seen promptly. Please be assured that we regularly review our appointment system and keep the Integrated Care Board (ICB) informed of any difficulties, so we can continue to improve access and ensure patients are seen in a timely and safe manner.

Your Voice: No availability for appointments outside of 9-5 working hours when we have to work and have school.
Our Move: We are pleased to inform you that we do have appointments available outside of the general 9 to 5 hours. Appointments are available Monday to Friday, 6:30pm to 8:30pm and Saturday, 9am to 4:30pm, provided by County Durham GP Providers Federation of GP's and are available to attend at Meadowfield Surgery and Belmont Surgery for patients registered at all of our 5 sites. If you would like an appointment during these times, please ask our care navigators who will be able to arrange this for you.
Your Voice: Find more parking if possible
Our Move: As of January 2026, patients will be pleased to know there will be more parking available. As you may already know, the practice's management team and administration staff are currently based at Meadowfield Surgery. The practice recently purchased a new building at Brandon Lane. All management and admin staff will be relocating to Brandon Lane in January which will hopefully free up a large chunk of parking spaces for patients.

Your Voice, Our Move
Your Voice: Being able to talk to the GP over the phone and save everyone's time.
Our Move: Telephone appointments are available everyday at the Practice. While some problems are better dealt with face to face, we do give the option of a phone call if needed or preferred. A phone call with the GP does however still need to be in an appointment slot. The GP still needs to go through the patient's history, take time to speak to the patient, arrange any necessary medication, referrals or investigations and also type up the consultation. This requires the same amount of time as a face-to-face appointment would.
